Today, November 26th, in 1942, Thanksgiving was celebrated.
That being said, I’d like to get..
Back to Basics with a 1942 Thanksgiving Menu fit for the 71st Brigade rendered by Mr. Norman Rockwell.
Olives and Celery
Apple & Raisin Dressing
Candied Sweet Potatoes
Lettuce & Tomato Salad
White House Rolls
plus 13 or so more items
with the last being… coffee.
Of all the listed items one begged me to check out a bit more..
It sounds prettier than it makes up but it is my new favorite Thanksgiving menu necessity, right next to the green bean casserole.
Original recipe makes 12 servings via allrecipes.com
- 1 (15 ounce) can creamed corn
- 1 (15.25 ounce) can whole kernel corn
- 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 (8.5 ounce) package corn muffin mix
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Mix together corn, sour cream, eggs, melted butter or margarine, and sugar. Mix in muffin mix. Pour into prepared baking dish. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a knife inserted midway into pan comes out clean.
Whatever you prepare - be it a vintage or artisan foodie menu, BE THANKFUL and enjoy all you have been blessed with. I’ll be doing the same.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
